About Debbie Fenelon
As far back as I can remember, I've been taking pictures. From Polaroid, to Kodak Instamatic and Easyshare, to the iPhone 6s Plus, I've had a camera in my hand everywhere I went. I remember the thrill every time I walked to the Fotomat hut on South Kingshighway to pick up my envelope of developed prints. (Although, I wondered how anyone could work in that little box of a building.)
The anticipation of opening that envelope and seeing my pictures brought me such joy. I loved sharing them with everyone. The thrill of capturing a beautiful moment has stayed with me. When I take a great shot it makes my heart and soul happy.
I've never understood people who say they don't like to have their picture taken. For me, pictures are the diaries of my life. I love to see the documentation of where I've been, what I've done, who I've shared my life with, things I've seen and people I've loved.
Over the past few years, the focus of my photography has changed. After losing my job in the recession and having a challenging health issue, I've focused on photography and improved my skills. Traveling for adventure has been paused, and I've become a tourist in my hometown. St. Louis, Missouri is a beautiful place to live, work and explore. It's a city rich in history, filled with charm and wonderful, kind people.
My goal is to show the beauty of St. Louis, not only to people in the metropolitan area, but also to people around the world. With recent features in USA Today and Midwest Living, I know this is finally happening. I hope when you're looking through my gallery, that the pictures evoke emotions of happiness, pride, and joy, which is how I felt when I took each and every photo.
Thank you for supporting my work. I appreciate it very much!
